Reggae singer Cedella Marley has used her platform to publicly congratulate Reggae Girl Khadijah “Bunny” Shaw on her latest accomplishment.
Marley shared a series of photos via social media celebrating the female striker becoming the all-time top scorer in Manchester City Women’s history, after she scored a brace which propelled the team into the quarterfinals of the Women’s Champion League on Thursday.
Shaw overtook Georgia Stanway and Janine Beckie to become Manchester City’s all-time top scorer in the competition, scoring in either half in Stockholm to take her career tally to seven in the competition.
In congratulating the athlete, Marley wrote in part, that her heart was with the incredible Bunny Shaw and all the women rewriting history on the field, noting that the women are making history everyday with every match they play. Marley encouraged continued support for female athletes and called for everyone involved to show them the respect they have earned.
Cedella Marley, a former Reggae Girlz Global Ambassador, continues to champion for women’s football through her Football is Freedom initiative which is geared towards supporting the development of women’s football at the grass-roots level in the region by funding existing programs/academies in the islands and in diaspora communities in Canada and the United States.
