Students being placed in institutions far from their homes continues to be one of the main reasons for parents seeking transfers
The placing of students in schools far from their homes continues to be one of the main reasons parents seek transfers.
All schools should begin classes fully this week, after the summer break.
With thousands of students out for the new school year, many school administrators have been forced to become creative in finding space to accommodate them.
Some of these students have transferred from other schools.
Principal of the Discovery Bay High School in St. Ann, Dwayne Mulgrave indicated that the school accepted 20 transfer students for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Speaking with IRIE FM news, Mr Mulgrave notes that in some instances, students are placed in schools which would require them to take multiple taxis or buses.
Education Minister Fayval Williams, while addressing space concerns at some of the island’s institutions last week, called on principals to hold off on accepting transfer students.
