St. Mary police probing mob killing of taxi operator
The Oracabessa Criminal Investigations branch in St. Mary, has launched a probe into the mob killing of a taxi operator in the parish, yesterday (August 16).
Negus DaCosta, 34, was reportedly beaten by citizens, in Jacks River, after it was alleged that he tried to sexually assault a teenage girl.
He died while undergoing treatment at the Port Maria hospital.
In response to the incident, which occurred at about 5: 45 PM, Commanding Officer for the St. Mary police, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis, urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
He also reminded residents of the various avenues available to handle disputes or deter incidents, such as mob killings.
