St. James seeing steady rise in dengue cases despite mitigation efforts

Despite mitigation efforts to control dengue in St. James, there is still a steady rise in the number of cases being recorded in the parish.

Speaking at the recent St. James Municipal Corporation meeting, Medical Officer of Health for the parish Dr. Tanique Bailey-Small stated that there is still an active dengue outbreak in the parish.

She pointed out that since November 11, there have been over 500 reported cases of dengue in St. James.

190 of those cases have been confirmed.

Dr. Bailey-Small therefore urged residents to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves.

She added that the operation hours have been extended at several facilities in the parish as part of the ministry’s obligation to offer care during the outbreak.
