Spanish Town Hospital probing circumstances surrounding death of 14-year-old girl who died after giving birth at the facility

Family members of a 14-year-old girl who died at the Spanish Town Hospital, reportedly after giving birth, are demanding answers from the facility, regarding the circumstances of her death.

The teenager reportedly passed away on Tuesday morning, after developing complications during her delivery.

The girl’s mother believes her daughter would still be alive if she was allowed to deliver the child via a c-section.

This afternoon, a group of the teen’s family members and friends converged at the entrance to the hospital, voicing their concerns regarding her death.

Meantime, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Jacqueline Ellis told IRIE FM News that she and the hospital’s patient affairs manager met with the girl’s mother this morning.

She said the hospital’s clinical team also met with the mother yesterday.

Ms. Ellis said the hospital is saddened by the unfortunate situation that occurred after the patient developed complications from the birthing process.

As it relates to the allegation that the teen’s death was linked to a shortage of medical staff, the CEO noted that there were 27 consultants covering the facility so the strike would not have impacted the patient.

She assured that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death is underway.

Ms. Ellis added that the organization is providing full support and assistance to the affected family during this difficult time.
