Some Jamaica Public Service customers in St. Elizabeth now receiving electricity

Some Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers in St. Elizabeth have begun receiving electricity.

The entire parish, which received the brunt of Hurricane Beryl last week, was without power for several days, despite restoration efforts in sections of other parishes.

In an update this morning, the JPS said electricity was restored to the Black River Hospital and some National Water Commission pump stations in Mount Edgecombe and Luana.

It noted that as it turns its focus to other critical facilities in the parish, nearby communities will benefit.

The JPS warned, however, that due to extensive damage to the electrical infrastructure, it will take up to a month for service to be restored fully to the parish.

Meanwhile, the JPS said that at 9 this morning, 84 per cent of its 692 thousand customers islandwide had electricity.
