Some educators to see increases in payments for graduate and remote inducement allowances effective April 1

Educators who qualify for graduate and remote inducement allowances will see increases in these payments effective April 1.

President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) Leighton Johnson, gave the update in a statement of outstanding matters stemming from the Government’s compensation review.

Mr. Johnson noted that the allowances were not applied to the salaries of teachers, coming out of the previous round of negotiations under the salary review exercise.

He noted that after much deliberation, the Government agreed with the JTA’s position on the increments to be paid.

Mr. Johnson assured teachers that the JTA will work with the Government to avoid anomalies in the new salaries.

Mr. Johnson also pledged to provide updates on other matters, such as those relating to mileage and increment.
