Shineka Gray’s killer sentenced to life in prison
37- year-old taxi driver Gregory Roberts was today sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 15-year-old schoolgirl Shineka Gray.
He must serve 50 years before he can be eligible for parole.
Roberts, who was found guilty of Gray’s murder on January 24, has already served 7 of the 50 years.
Justice Bertram Morrison in passing down the sentence described the murder as a gruesome and sadistic act.
The judge reminded Roberts that he and his former co-defendant Mario Morrison had sex with the teen and also video-recorded her murder.
Evidence was given at the trial that Roberts stabbed Gray multiple times on January 29, 2017 and made a video of the incident.
Mario Morrison, who pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced in 2022 to life imprisonment, was a witness for the prosecution at Robert’s trial.
Today, a 7-member jury deliberated for 85 minutes in the St. James circuit court and returned the guilty verdict.
