Shericka Jackson strikes gold in women’s 200 meters at World Athletics Championship

Shericka Jackson ran a breathtaking race, the second fastest time in history, a World Leading and Championship record to win the Women’s 200 meters final earlier today at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest Hungary. 

Jackson took the gold in convincing fashion after storming to 21.41 seconds to beat the US pair of Gabby Thomas 21. 81 and Sha-Carri- Richardson 21.92 seconds.

With the win Jamaica’s medal tally jumped to nine ….that is 3 gold , 3 silver and 3 bronze

Earlier Jamaica missed out on a medal in the women’s triple jump after Shenicka ricketts  finished fourth in 14.92 metres. 

Jamaica made progress to both men’s and women’s relay finals tomorrow.

In the qualifiers Jamaica’s quartet of Akeem Blake to Oblique Seville to Ryiem Forde oblique seville and Rohan Watson finished second in heat one in 37.65 seconds. 

The heat was won by Italy 37.65 seconds ahead of the USA 37. 67 seconds. 

Jamaica women’s quartet of Brianna Williams, Elaine Thompson Hearah, Shasha Lee Forbes and Shelly Ann Fraser -Pryce on anchor also made progress to the final……..as they ran a sizzling 41.70 seconds to beat great britain 42.33 and Switzerland third 42.64 seconds. 

USA won heat two in 41.59 seconds .

Meanwhile, two-time national champion Lamara Distin will be the only Jamaican competitor in Sunday’s final of the women’s high jump .

Distin cleared a height of 1.92m to advance to the gold medal round, finishing third in group a qualifications.

Her compatriot and Commonwealth bronze medallist, Kimberly Williamson had to settle for 15th in group B’ after failing to get over 1.89 metres she equalled her season’s best jump of 1.85 metres.

Distin will contest the final of the event at 1:05 pm Jamaica time.
