Senior JDF official resigns amidst sexual harassment allegations
A senior officer of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has resigned, following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, levelled against him.
Last month, a female service member made an official report, regarding alleged inappropriate conduct by the senior officer. An immediate investigation was launched.
In a statement today, the JDF said the probe revealed that the senior officer conducted himself in a manner contrary to the Defence Act.
Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the senior officer, who has resigned.
The army said the investigation also recommended disciplinary action for other service members, who had knowledge of the allegation, but failed to provide a report, which is required, according to force policies.
The Chief of Defence staff accepted the resignation of the senior officer, on Monday.
The JDF is reiterating its zero tolerance for actions that are in breach of the Defence Act and force policies, and continues to implore service members and civilians who are aware of any breach to use the approved processes to report them.
