Sending soldiers to help quell unrest in Haiti won’t affect Jamaica’s security operations -Johnson Smith

Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith has pointed out that sending soldiers to help quell the humanitarian and political unrest in Haiti, would not affect Jamaica’s security operations, especially if the intervention continues into next year.

She was responding to concerns that the security intervention would impact the Local Government Election, which is due next February.

Jamaica is one of the CARICOM countries that has agreed to contribute manpower to an international security force to be led by Kenya, into Haiti.

The Minister said efforts continue to coordinate the security mission to Haiti, and this includes, the timing of the mission.
