The Senate on Friday approved the establishment of a National Natural Disaster Reserve Fund. 

The fund aims to strengthen the country’s disaster risk management framework.

Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Kamina Johnson Smith, piloted the Financial Administration and Audit Amendment Bill, which paved the way for the fund’s establishment.

In her opening remarks, she noted that with Jamaica located in a climate vulnerable region, the fund is extremely important, as it will help make the country’s economy more resilient.
