Security officer accused of stealing over $2M from ATM at financial institution last month, charged
A 55-year-old security officer accused of stealing over $2 million from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at a financial institution last month has been charged with larceny as a servant.
He is Terrance Austin of Kintyre Road, Kingston 6.
Reports from the St. Andrew Central Policing Division are that on Friday, May 29, 2026, a financial institution discovered discrepancies involving funds that had not been received since Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The institution subsequently contacted representatives of the contracted security company and informed them of the shortage.
An internal investigation revealed that Austin, who was employed by the company and responsible for clearing the ATM and cheque deposit vault at the location, allegedly removed JMD $2,045,300.
The incident was reportedly captured on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed inside the ATM area.
A report was made to the police on Thursday, June 11. Austin was arrested and charged on Tuesday, June 16, following a caution statement given in the presence of his attorney.
His court date is being finalised.
