Security Minister says addition of inshore patrol vessels to Jamaica’s security apparatus will contribute to continued reduction in crime
Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang says the addition of inshore patrol vessels to Jamaica’s security apparatus will contribute to the continued reduction in crime.
Three patrol vessels donated by the Japanese government were handed over yesterday to the Jamaica Defence Force.
The collaboration between Jamaica and Japan comes through the Japanese grant aid under the Economic and Social Development Programme and six vessels in total have been received by Jamaica.
Dr. Chang said the vessels are significant to the country’s maritime security as they help to address challenges at sea including the flow of guns, drugs and illegal immigrants.
In the meantime, Dr. Chang welcomed the support from the Japanese government and assured that the assets will be used in Jamaica’s efforts to reduce crime.
