Sean Paul shares Latin Music Awards experience

International Dancehall star Sean Paul says he is achieving the goal of every artiste to have their music impact every genre.

Music News caught up with the Dutty Rock deejay after he attended the 30th annual Billboard Latin Music Awards in Florida last night.

Sean Paul, a prominent figure in the Latin music scene for years, was nominated for his first-ever Billboard Latin Music Award in the Crossover Artist of the Year category. He competed against fellow nominees Justin Timberlake, Lil Jon, Maître Gims and Marshmello, who copped the award.

Speaking with Music News, the multi-award winning deejay says this experience has further broadened his horizon even as he sought to explain why he thought a Latin audience found his music appealing.

He has already collaborated with Latin artistes such as Shakira, Daddy Yankee, Enrique Iglesias, J Balvin and Karol G.

He says the highlight for him at this year’s awards was meeting up with Karol G again, who took home album of the year.

The ‘Gimme The Light’ hitmaker says the event this year gave him a chance to network with several other stars as well, as he also announced an upcoming collaboration with another Latin artiste.

In related news, Sean Paul & Dua Lipa’s “No Lie” has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. It’s Sean Paul’s second song to reach this milestone, and Dua Lipa’s ninth.
