Roje Stona invited to rookie mini camp by Green Bay Packers & New Orleans Saints

Jamaican shot putter and discus thrower Roje Stona has taken the first steps towards a professional career in the NFL after being by the Green Bay packers and New Orleans Saints to their rookie mini camps.

Of the rookie camp invites, Stona, who stands at 6’ 6” and weighs 270 pounds and is hoping to play defensive end, has the most unique background with him having zero competitive football experience.

The scouting report by NFL analyst Lance Zierlein described the former Arkansas standout “As a track standout with an NFL body type and traits.”

The report went on to further state, “As a discus and shot put thrower, Stona possesses explosive hips and above-average core strength to pair with very long arms and huge hands.”

He will likely be targeted as a developmental project at tight end, where he will have to learn to block,” adding “He ran and jumped well at his pro day, but he looked uneasy running and catching in drills.”

It ends by saying “If he’s committed to making it, he might be worth prioritizing as an undrafted free agent.”

Stona, who previously attended Rusea’s and St. Jago High, in April achieved the qualifying standard in the men’s discus throw for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after throwing a new personal best of 69.05 metres at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational meet.

The 25 year old finished 9th in the men’s discuss at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest with a throw of 62.57 metres.
