Rohan Marley reacts to Bob Marley One Love Box Office victory

Despite the negative criticisms, the Bob Marley One Love movie reportedly broke the Box Office record on its first day in theatres.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the music biopic which opened on Wednesday, generated $14 million in the United States, delivering the best-ever mid-week Valentine’s Day haul.

Rohan Marley, son of the Reggae legend, shared a screenshot of the historic feat and thanked fans for helping to spread the message of One Love. “Give thanks to the people for helping to spread the message of #OneLove”, he wrote as part of the caption on his verified Instagram account on Thursday (Feb 15).

Meanwhile, internationally, the opening day receipts for Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love totalled $5.4 million, including $1.3 million in France, $615k in Australia, $185k in Spain, $175k in New Zealand, $155k in Sweden, $130k in Belgium, and $90k in Norway.

Between yesterday and today, the film based on segments of the life of the world-renowned, iconic Reggae legend, opened in 26 other countries.

Initial projections suggested that the “Bob Marley: One Love” which reportedly cost $70 million (not including promo) to make, could rake in $30 million to $35 million in the U.S. alone through President’s Day on Monday.

According to Paramount Pictures’ CEO, Brian Robbins, the film employed over 2,000 Jamaicans, most as extras, but also 400 in cast and crew roles.
