Residents of the Haddon Community in St. Ann are calling on the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) to act swiftly to extinguish the fire at the nearby disposal site.

The site, which has been set on fire several times over the years is once again causing problems for citizens.

One resident told IRIE-FM News that the fire which started early yesterday (September 18) has caused thick smoke to blanket the area.

He said he fears for the health and wellness of his family, school children and elderly citizens.

Another resident cautioned motorists traversing the area to be vigilant and cut their speed.

Meanwhile, the NSWMA has assured citizens that all efforts are being made to put out the fire at the Haddon disposal site.

Executive Director of the Authority, Audley Gordon said he has no doubt that by the end of the day the fire will be contained.
