Repurpose all major transport centres, not just the one in HWT-Mikael Phillips

The Opposition has amplified its call for the Transport Ministry to take steps to repurpose all Transport Centres in the country to accommodate coaster bus operators in a bid to reduce traffic congestion.

Last Wednesday (August 30), Chairman of the Transport Authority, Owen Ellington outlined elements of a draft proposal, which included the repurposing of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre to accommodate public passenger operators.

The aim is to combat the culture of loading and off-loading passengers in live lanes, as well as to reduce the risk of people being hurt.

Speaking with IRIE FM news, Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips welcomed the move regarding the Half-Way-Tree Centre but stressed the importance of implementing a similar initiative at centres islandwide.
