Repair work underway at Ocho Rios Transport Centre, following yesterday’s protest over conditions at the facility
Repair works began today at the Ocho Rios Transport Centre in St. Ann.
This followed a protest yesterday by vendors and transport operators over conditions at the facility.
They had expressed their dissatisfaction with the overall state of the park despite paying fees weekly to utilize it.
Some of their grouses included garbage pile-up, poor bathroom facilities and the presence of homeless persons, who they said, made the environment unsanitary for vendors to sell food.
When IRIE FM News visited the facility today, work was underway.
One vendor said she is happy repair works have begun.
Meantime, Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie said his ministry will allocate $7 million from the equalization fund to upgrade and paint the facility.
He also commended the vendors and operators of the park for their commitment to improve the facility.
