Programme of support for farmers who suffered losses due to Hurricane Beryl’s passage will be outlined today

A programme of support for farmers who suffered losses due to Hurricane Beryl’s passage will be outlined today.

Several of the island’s farmers have reported loss of crops and extensive damage to agricultural infrastructure as a result of the Category 4 hurricane.

St. Elizabeth, which is dubbed the breadbasket parish, is among three southern parishes which were impacted severely.

Speaking with IRIE FM news yesterday, Agriculture Minister Floyd Green said steps are being taken to support industry players as they try to recover from the devastating impacts of the hurricane.

He said the aim is to rebuild production levels in the shortest possible time.

The Ministry has already established a task force and an emergency disaster relief fund to assist farmers and fishers directly impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

It has also established a special relief fund to accept cash donations.

Donations in kind can also be delivered to the Ministry’s Kingston office.
