Probe ordered into working and living conditions of some farm workers in Ontario

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jnr has ordered an immediate investigation into the living conditions and work environment of a group of farm workers in Ontario Canada.

The Labour Ministry says it’s closely monitoring reports that the workers are operating under subpar conditions.

The Ministry says the latest reports suggest, that farm workers who are faced with adverse living conditions, withdrew their services in protest on Thursday.

Liaison officers were directed to visit the location, to provide a fulsome report on the conditions of the farm workers.

This development follows reports also of substandard conditions on some farms in Canada last year.

A local fact-finding team, appointed to assess the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Programme (SAWP) in that country,  found that most of the Jamaican employees were satisfied with their working and living conditions.
