PPV drivers urged to drive within the speed limit, in the wake of recent deadly crashes

In the wake of recent deadly crashes involving Public Passenger Vehicles (PPVs), the police are urging PPV operators to be mindful of the need to ensure the safety of themselves and their passengers.

The call follows Thursday’s crash along the Font Hill main road in St. Elizabeth, which left one man dead and over a dozen others injured.

Head of the police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) Assistant Commissioner Gary McKenzie urged operators to drive within the speed limit and to always be alert while driving.

Approximately 180 people have died because of injuries sustained in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year.

Fourteen of those have been in St. Elizabeth. While this is fewer than the 19 killed in the similar period last year, the PSTEB head said the number is still concerning.
