Policeman killed in Manchester

The body of a policeman was found in bushes at Breezy Hill, Manchester this morning.

He has been identified as Constable Mario Thomas.

The Constabulary says Thomas had been interdicted from duty since September 29, 2020.

The body was discovered after a police search of the area, following a shooting incident at a bar about 10:30 last night.

Preliminary reports indicate that Thomas was at the bar, when an unidentified assailant approached and fired at him.

Thomas attempted to flee but was pursued and shot at again.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police recovered 9mm spent casings and found a vehicle with bullet holes, which has been secured for further investigation.

In a statement this morning, the Constabulary says Constable Thomas was interdicted following his involvement in an alleged case of murder, and other serious crimes.

The circumstances leading to his death are under thorough investigation by the major investigation division.

The JCF says it is committed to conducting a comprehensive and transparent investigation, to ascertain the full details surrounding this incident.

The JCF is extending condolences to the family and friends of Constable Thomas during this  difficult time.

Meantime, the slain Constable’s mother, Dallary Stephens, said this was the third attempt on her son’s life.
