Police implementing various measures to manage Swine Flu at Kingston lock up

The police have been implementing various measures over the past 2 weeks, to manage cases of Swine Flu, detected amongst detainees at a lock up in Kingston.

The health ministry has been assisting the police, with adherence to protocols.

Reports of the swine flu outbreak at the lock-up emerged on Thursday, after a detainee was reportedly unable to attend a court hearing.

Head of the police’s Communications Unit Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay told Irie Fm News that the affected detainees are being treated, and are recovering well.

The influenza a H1N1 virus also known as swine flu has been circulating among the Jamaican population, since 2009.

Symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat, running nose, muscle aches, extreme tiredness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  

People who experience these symptoms should seek medical attention.

Citizens are urged to practice proper hand washing and other good hygiene habits to reduce the spread of the disease.
