PNP refers membership of accused former MP to internal processes following serious sexual offence charge
The People’s National Party (PNP) says it has referred the membership of an accused former Member of Parliament (MP) to the appropriate internal processes for immediate action.
This follows reports that the former MP has been charged with a serious sexual offence.
In a statement, the PNP says the party’s thoughts are first and foremost with the young victim and all those affected by “this deeply distressing case”.
It says, the protection of children and all vulnerable persons must always be priority.
The party says, upon learning of the charges, it acted without delay.
It says it respect that the matter is now a legal one, and as such, will limit comments.
The PNP says it trusts that the judicial process will be fair, thorough and expedient.
The PNP notes, that it remains unwavering in its commitment to the highest standards of conduct and to policies that actively protect and support victims of abuse.
It says, there is no place in the party or the society for anyone who would commit such crimes.
