JTA to meet with BITU today to discuss payments owed to the unionized staff they represent

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is expected to meet with the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) today to discuss outstanding payments owed to some categories of workers.

The union represents security, ancillary, accounting and clerical staff at the JTA.

Yesterday, several workers took industrial action to register their frustrations over payments owed.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, BITU Vice President, Rudolph Thomas said following the industrial action by some staff members, the JTA management scheduled a meeting for today at 10:00 a.m.

He said they are expected to discuss the matter of negotiations for the 2024 to 2026 contract period among other issues.

Mr. Thomas said he is hopeful that the union will be provided with a firm timeline to resolve the issues affecting the workers.
