PNP hopeful cops will move swiftly in probes into alleged death threats received by MP aspirant Dr Alfred Dawes

The People’s National Party (PNP) says it hopes the police will move swiftly in their investigations into alleged death threats received by Member of Parliament aspirant, Dr Alfred Dawes.

Dr Dawes, who will vie for the South East St Catherine Constituency, has seen his candidacy marked with fierce opposition by some PNP supporters.

Dr Dawes and Alrick Campbell were both competing for the PNP candidacy, but the Party’s leaders invoked reserved powers to select Dr Dawes as the candidate to represent the Constituency in the next General Elections.

In defending the move, Party leaders noted that Dr Dawes’ candidacy has been backed by the polls and that his selection was done according to the PNP’s Constitution.

Speaking with IRIE FM news on the reported death threat issued to Dr Dawes, PNP General Secretary, Dr Dayton Campbell said the situation must be handled within the full force of the law.

Meantime, in a social media post, Dr. Dawes said he will not be scared away by the threat to his life, nor the opposition to his candidacy.
