Over 600 production workers employed to UC Rusal restive
Over six hundred (600) production workers employed to UC Rusal Alumina Jamaica Limited are restive.
This follows the breakdown of wage and fringe benefits negotiations between the management of the company and the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees, UCASE, which represents the workers.
President of UCASE, Vincent Morrison told Irie FM News that negotiations between the company and the union, commenced in October last year and since January of this year, several follow up meetings were held.
He said the company has refused to address the union’s claim for basic benefits, such as notice and redundancy payment, payment for public holidays, and medical coverage for certain categories of employees.
Mr. Morrison said the workers have opted to take industrial action, commencing at 6:00 a.m. Next Thursday March 30.
He noted that the Labour Ministry has invited the parties to a conciliatory meeting next Monday, which could impact the planned industrial action.
