Over 300 schools suffered damage during Hurricane Beryl; repair bill now at $2.7 billion

Continuing assessments post-hurricane Beryl have seen the number of schools that suffered damage due to the storm increase to over 300.

At last count, the ministry had indicated that the figure stood at 212.

In an update at a press conference on Friday, Education Minister Fayval Williams noted that the number of schools with damage has gone up.

The figure to repair the damage has also increased to $2.7 billion.

Mrs. Williams noted that there are 110 moderately damaged schools listed as priority 2. These institutions can operate while work is underway.

Another 114 schools suffered minor damage.

The Education Minister added that contractors have been identified to effect repairs, even as assessments continue.
