Opposition calls for government to implement long-term solutions aimed at preventing jailbreaks

A call is being made for the government to implement long-term solutions, aimed at preventing jailbreaks across the country.

Prisoners, some in large groups, have escaped jail cells, at least twice, this year.

In the latest incident yesterday morning, seven inmates escaped from the Oracabessa Police Station in St. Mary.

A manhunt has been launched for the inmates.

In light of these incidents, Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting, says strategies must be employed to deal effectively with this growing problem.

He says a comprehensive probe must be done into yesterday’s escape, and regional remand centres should be constructed, as a long-term solution.
