Opposition calls for established standards to ensure health of Jamaicans who purchase upcycled container homes
The Opposition is calling for established standards which would ensure that the health and safety of Jamaicans are not compromised when they purchase the new upcycled container homes.
The upcycled containers, an initiative by the Kingston Logistic Centre, aim to provide affordable housing to citizens.
However, Opposition Spokesperson on Housing and Sustainable Living, Senator Floyd Morris, says though he welcomes the cost-effective solution, there is concern over the potential health and safety risks, associated with using these containers for residential purposes.
He is concerned that the shipping containers, some of which have transported harmful chemicals, could pose health risks to citizens who have been exposed for a while.
