NWC President sent on administrative leave amidst corruption allegations

President of the National Water Commission (NWC) Mark Barnett has been sent on immediate administrative leave, pending investigations into allegations of corruption.

It comes in the wake of a damning report from the Integrity Commission, which flagged Barnett and his wife for alleged breaches relating to an apartment complex in St. Andrew.

The commission cited, among other things, irregularities in the approval process for the construction of the complex.

NWC’s board chairman, Michael Shaw, indicates that the leave will allow time for the board to complete its review, then make a final decision on the report from the commission.

The board has asked Mr. Barnett not to report for work, and to turn in his keys, identification, and all government assets.
