NSWMA working to clear garbage backlog in over 70 St James communities

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has noted that 76 communities across St. James are currently in backlog in relation to solid waste collection and removal.

The authority said it has been facing major challenges in collecting solid waste since the passage of Hurricane Melissa last October.

Giving the agency’s report at the regular monthly meeting of the St. James Municipal Corporation on Thursday, Roxanne Hayle said the backlog represents 11 loads of waste.

Ms. Hayle said efforts will continue to clear the backlog and resume the regular garbage collection schedule.

Meantime, councillor for the Salt Spring division Gregory Harris commended the authority on communicating more effectively.
