NRSC welcomes new Road Traffic Act

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) has welcomed the implementation of the new road traffic act.

The act, which is now in effect, has harsher penalties for offences.

Among the stiffer penalties are hefty fines for breaches committed by motorcycle drivers.

A loud muffler and popping a wheelie, will attract a fine of $10,000 while not wearing a helmet will result in an $8,000.

Vice Chairman of the council, Dr. Lucien Jones believes that the act will help to ensure road safety.
