Novak Djokovic is now number 1 in men’s ATP rankings

Novak Djokovic has now officially taken over as the ATP’s number 1 for a record 390th week after winning his fourth US open title yesterday.

Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to bag a record-equalling 24th major title.

The ATP number 1 ranking was settled on day one of the tournament when the Serbian star trounced Alexandre Muller to overturn Alcaraz’s 20-point lead.

With the Spaniard defending points following his maiden grand slam win last summer, djokovic stood in a position to gain points during the US swing including the US Open after missing out from last year’s field due to covid-19 restrictions.

Djokovic, with 11,795 points is now over 3,000 points clear of second-placed Alcaraz, whose title defense ended in the semifinal stage.

beaten finalist Daniil Medvedev gained 1,020 points but remained in third spot, while Dane Holger Rune occupies fourth place.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev are up two spots to 5th and 6th respectively.
