Nicholas Pooran on ICC shortlist for player of the month award
Explosive West Indies wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran and two Pakistan players have made the shortlist for the ICC men’s player of the month award for August 2023.
Nicholas Pooran was a thorn in the side of the Indian team when they toured the Caribbean in august as west indies broke their six-year drought against the men in blue with a 3-2 T/20 international series win.
In the first game Pooran stroked a measured 34-ball 41 that helped the ‘Windies’ sealed a thrilling four-run win over the visitors
The composed knock was followed by an explosive 40-ball 67 in the second t/20 that was laced with six fours and four sixes and was crucial in the tense 2 wickets victory in game two in Guyana.
However, Pooran faced setbacks in the third and fourth matches, scoring 20 and 1 run respectively, allowing India to make a comeback in the series and force a decider.
In the final match in Florida, Pooran smashed a crucial 47 off 35 balls as West indies strolled to an eight-wicket win chasing 166.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan captain Babar Azam who is the top-ranked batter in the mrf tyres icc men’s ODI player rankings continued his rich vein of form from the previous month with two fifties and a century.
The Pakistan captain contributed 53 runs in the recent second ODI win over Afghanistan , and followed up with another crucial 60, to help his side to a comfortable 59-run victory in the third match and achieve a 3-nil sweep of Afghanistan in the three game series.
The other nominee is the pakistan’s star all-rounder Shadab Khan
