In another few weeks, a new requirement for certification will be imposed for drivers of public passenger vehicles, who want to renew their licences.

This is one half of a new regime that will be implemented by the transport ministry, as part of efforts to improve the industry.

Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, portfolio minister Daryl Vaz said the Transport Authority will administer the course that drivers will have to do, prior to getting their licence.

The other half of the new regime, is the creation of a PPV driver register or database.
