New police commissioner says JCF must move past negativism and self defeat

Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake says the Jamaica Constabulary Force, (JCF), must move past negativism and self defeat in order to curb crime.

Dr Blake said the complex social phenomenon of crime, security and public safety, is a tough business.

He notes the daily challenge of maintaining law and order , stating that despite harsh and sometimes unfair criticism from some quarters, the majority of Jamaicans love the police.

Dr Blake points out that many critics of the police, have misconceptions about the force, which are not supported by data.

Noting that the police have the primary responsibility to reduce crime and violence, he says the force welcomes partnerships, adding that everyone has a role to play.

He says the force regards the value of transparency, truth and accountability to the public, as essential in the fight to defeat crime and make Jamaica safer.

Dr. Blake is also calling for partnership with the media, to help the force live up to these values.
