The Netherlands created  one  of  the  biggest  upsets  in  the  history   of  the  ICC Men’s  Cricket  World  Cup  when  they  scored  an  emphatic  38  run  win  over  the  previously  unbeaten  South  Africa today  in   Dharamsala .

Inspirational captain Scott Edwards led   the  way  for  the  Dutch  team  with  an  unbeaten  knock  of  78  which  included  10  fours  and  a  six   as  the  Netherlands  posted  a  competitive  245  for  8    in  the  match  which  was  reduced  to  a  43  overs  a  side  affair   because  of  early  rain.

Edwards was  supported  by  veteran all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe  who  hit  29  and number  10   batsman  Aryan Dutt   who  cracked  23 off  just nine balls.

Bowling  for  South  Africa  Kagiso  Rabada  2  for  56, Lungi Ngidi 57  and  Marco  Jansen  2  for  27  took  most  of  the  wickets.

South  Africa  in  their  reply  were  pushed  back  at  44  for  4, never  recovered    and  were  bowled  out  for  207  to  suffer  their  first  defeat  to  a  non-test  playing  nation.

This  despite  .knocks  of  43  from  David  miller  and  40  from Keshav Maharaj …………….Logan Van Beek with  3  for  60  was  the  most  successful  bowler  for  the  Netherlands  with   Paul Van Meekeren grabbing  2  for  40, Bas De Leede 2 for  36 and Van Der Merwe  2  for  34.

The loss robs South Africa of the chance to leapfrog unbeaten sides India and New Zealand at the top of the World Cup standings, with Temba Bavuma’s side remaining in third following their first defeat at the tournament.

The Netherlands  first win of the world cup see  them  overtake Sri Lanka to move up to ninth.
