NEPA takes action against entity responsible for latest effluent spill in the Rio Cobre

The National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA says action has been taken against an entity, after it was discovered that effluent entered the Rio Cobre.

The agency classified yesterday’s fish kill in the Rio Cobre as minor, adding that investigations continue.

Senior Manager of the Environmental Management Sub Division at NEPA Richard Nelson explains that there was a site visit and assessment of the situation, after the agency received a report yesterday morning.

The fish kill occurred in the lower section of the Rio Cobre, in the area between Central Village and Portmore.

Mr. Nelson says the team on the ground took action, issuing an onsite warning notice, for the breach committed.
