Nat’l Day of Mourning must be time of reflection; Jamaicans should commit to treating children better -Tufton

Health and Wellness Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton says he hopes that today’s observance as the National Day of Mourning will encourage all Jamaicans to commit to treating children better.

Earlier this week, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen declared today June 23, a day of mourning for the country’s youngest crime victims – the latest of whom is 8-year-old Danielle Rowe.

Danielle was abducted from her school in St. Catherine and later murdered.

Speaking at an event in Annotto Bay, St Mary this afternoon, Dr Tufton said though the country mourns the tragic loss of children, Jamaicans must use the time to reflect.

He explained that through reflection, the country can learn from its past.
