Dante Brooks, the son of Dancehall Entertainer Mavado, has been freed of murder.

Brooks and his co-accused Andre Hinds had their life sentences overturned by the Court of Appeal, today.

The men were handed the sentences in 2021 for the 2018 murder of 23 year old Lorenzo Thomas. 

Brooks, who was 18 years old at the time of the conviction, was also sentenced to 15 years for arson and 20 years for illegal possession of firearm. 

The sentences were to run concurrently.

The lawyers representing the men filed an appeal on the basis of inadmissible evidence.

Brook’s attorney Hugh Wildman said the appellate court ruled in favour of the men, today freeing them.
