Member of Parliament for North Eastern St. Elizabeth Zuleika Jess says she is in talks with the relevant authorities to address flooding in sections of Santa Cruz.

Main Street and Institution Drive were among areas left inundated yesterday.

Community members claim that Wednesday’s incident was the third of its kind in recent days.

Residents and business operators say the issue is a longstanding one and have highlighted poor drainage facilities as a contributing factor.

They have called for the issue to be addressed.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Ms. Jess underscored that the issue poses a threat to the safety of residents especially children.

She highlighted that the flooding is as a result of factors including the collapse of a main drain along Main Street.

Ms. Jess said she is in discussions with the National Works Agency (NWA) about the issue.

According to the MP the NWA is making progress in rectifying the situation.
