MP blames Westmoreland taxi protests on external forces

Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Western, Morland Wilson has expressed concern that the protest by taxi operators over poor conditions is being influenced by external forces with ulterior motives.

For two consecutive days, commuters especially school children were left stranded as taxi operators withdrew their service and mounted roadblocks along the Grange Hill to Savanna-La-Mar roadway.

The operators are upset over the deteriorating conditions of the thoroughfare and have called for proper rehabilitative works to be done instead of patching.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Mr. Wilson says the disruption to students’ learning and to other citizens’ daily activities is being orchestrated by what he described as paid “actors”.

Mr. Wilson said the matter has been reported to the police for investigation into the claims.
