A motorist is in police custody after he reportedly mowed down a police officer, this morning.

The incident occurred along the North Coast Highway in the vicinity of Unity Valley in St. Ann. 

According to the Jamaica Police Federation, the constable who has been hospitalized, is unconscious.  

Arrangements are reportedly being made to transfer him to a medical facility in Kingston. 

Reports are that some time after midnight, the constable was conducting traffic duties when he signalled a motorist to stop.

The policeman was reportedly hit during the process. 

The cop was taken to hospital and the motorist was arrested.
