Government Senator Dr Sapphire Longmore is calling for changes to Jamaica’s laws that will see people convicted of killing children handed mandatory life sentences.

She made the statement in the senate today(September 29), as she highlighted the recent murders of children across the country.

The most recent incident, the rape and murder of 9 year old Talia Thompson occurred in Discovery Bay St Ann, last Saturday.

According to Senator Longmore, those convicted of these tragedies should be locked behind bars for the rest of their lives.

She said this would demonstrate that there is no excuse to murder a child.
