A man is under police guard in hospital after he attempted to commit suicide after its alleged that he raped and killed an 8 year old girl in Discovery Bay St Ann on Saturday.

The deceased is Talia Thomas of Discovery Bay.

Head of the St Ann police Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell said that the girl was staying at her neighbour’s house, when the accused reportedly took her to his house and raped her before stabbing her multiple times.

The St Ann police commander said the accused then tried to kill himself.

However, he was taken to hospital by the police after they were called to the scene.

SSP Powell said 4 home-made firearms were reportedly found in the house of the accused.
