Labour Ministry to meet with UC Rusal, UCASE over wage concerns
The labour ministry will host a conciliatory meeting with the management of UC Rusal Alumina Jamaica Limited, and the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees, (UCASE), on Monday.
This in a bid to resolve issues between the management of UC Rusal and over 600 of its production workers.
The workers are restive, following the breakdown of wage and fringe benefits negotiations between the management of UC Rusal and Ucase, which represents them.
President of Ucase, Vincent Morrison told Irie Fm News that negotiations between the company and the union, commenced in October last year, and since January of this year, several follow up meetings were held.
He said the company has refused to address the union’s claim for basic benefits, such as notice and redundancy payment, payment for public holidays, and medical coverage for certain categories of employees.
A notice of industrial action starting Thursday at 6am has also been served on UC Rusal.
Mr. Morrison said Monday’s meeting could impact the planned industrial action.
