Labour Minister Karl Samuda to give a fulsome statement in Parliament later today on issues facing nation’s security guards

Labour Minister Karl Samuda is expected to give a fulsome statement in Parliament later today (April 19) on issues facing the nation’s security guards.

Security guards across the island have been restive, following claims that some security companies have asked the guards to sign controversial contracts, requiring them to waive their rights, including benefits for years of service.

This, as the guards transition from contract workers to employees, following a Supreme Court ruling.

Information Minister, Robert Morgan told reporters at Jamaica House this morning, that Mr Samuda will address the issue regarding the guards, during his Sectoral Debate presentation today.

Mr Morgan also noted that Mr Samuda is slated to make a statement on the Farm Work Programme, following issues, including those relating to the mistreatment of workers on the programme.

A fact-finding mission was sent to review the operations of the farms in Canada, last October.

Mr Morgan commented on the findings.
